The Opportunity:
This Environmental Health & Safety Specialist position serves as a training coordinator to ensure that the university's safety training needs are met. The individual in this position develops, implements, and manages the comprehensive laboratory, environmental management, and workplace safety training programs to protect people and the environment, administers the EHSA database, and assists with the development and design of informational web and print media for the department.

Responsibilities:
Develop and Deliver EHS Training:
* Conduct engaging lectures and hands-on training sessions on laboratory safety, environmental management, fire safety, and workplace safety topics, adapting delivery methods to audience needs.

Manage Training Records and Data:
* Maintain accurate and organized training data and records in compliance with departmental procedures and regulatory requirements.

Apply Instructional Design Principles:
* Utilize systematic analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) principles to create effective online and classroom-based training programs.

EHSA Database Management:
* Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot the training section of the EHSA database to ensure reliable data collection and generate comprehensive training reports.

Collaborate with Stakeholders:
* Serve as a liaison and collaborate with academic departments, campus units, and regulatory experts to define training objectives and develop effective learning and assessment materials using appropriate pedagogical strategies.

Learning Management System Administration:
* Manage the assignment, tracking, and completion of required training courses through platforms such as Webcourses, Workday, and other web-based learning management systems.

Continuous Improvement and Research:
* Collect, analyze, and report on training evaluation scores and feedback to drive continuous improvement of training courses and programs.
* Research emerging technologies and training strategies to enhance departmental training effectiveness.

Communication and Outreach:
* Coordinate public relations and marketing efforts to communicate and inform relevant entities about available training and departmental programs.

EHSA Database Support and Training:
* Provide comprehensive support and training on the use of the EHSA database, including onboarding for new staff and specialized training for evolving roles, processes, and database functionalities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of general safety experience.
  • Previous experience conducting EHS trainings.



    Special Instructions to the Applicants:
    Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
